History of Erlton

Back in the 1920's, Earl R. Lippincott built approximately 80 homes in this area on what are now Whitman, Conwell and Sheridan Avenues. Using his initials, E.R.L. he chose "Erlton" as the name of the neighborhood, and named the streets after people he admired. Other builders eventually added more homes, and Erlton became the hub of the town with a post office located in the back of the Erlton Barber shop. The Erlton school opened in 1928 creating an influx of students to this newly developed area.
